Let the Games Begin!

Updates!

Classes have begun! My first week of classes has been pretty chill...and awkward (have you ever noticed how awkward the spelling for the word awkward is?) at times. I am taking three classes here at RMIT and on August 19th, I will start my online class from UNCG. Two of my classes are post-graduate classes and only one of them is an undergraduate class. It is weird being one of, if not the ONLY, undergraduate in my post-graduate courses. I will survive though. I have survived being the youngest my whole college career, why should it stop me now?

All of my roommates are moved in finally. Three boys and two girls. One boy and I are fom the US and are both going to RMIT. The other two boys and the other girl is from China and they are all going to Melbourne University. Everyone seems nice and we have had no disputes yet. One actually saved my day!

............

Let me set the scene...

I have just woken up after getting to sleep in. All of my roommates are either sleeping, have left for the day, or are about to leave. I decide to take a long, relaxing shower. I grab all of my stuff and leave my room. The shut the door to my room, the knob clicks and it does not sound right. I check it...I am locked out! I am now locked out of my room, dressed in only a towel! Thank God one of my roommates was leaving and said he would go down the street to the office and let them know I needed help. Ugh! So embarrassing!

Australia Fun Fact #2

Tina this one is for you...

There are birds EVERYWHERE! They are on sidewalks, parks, beaches, trees, and everywhere else you would suspect them, but imagine 2x as many. I was walking home the other day and a car had to go down a section of the street slowly because a whole flock had landed in the middle of the road and wouldn't move.

Australia Fun Fact #3

The first time I walked into a bathroom, this startled me a little. As you can imagine, I was trying to figure out why needed such public needle disposale sites. Are there that many drug addicts? Should I be worried?

They are actually for people who have diabetes. It is so they can safely dispose of their needles while in public. I thought that was a pretty cool thing for the city to do.

Australia Fun Fact #4

There money is clunky, heavy, and kind of annoying. They have paper money but they often will give you coins back instead. They have $0.05, $0.10, $0.20, $0.50, $1.00, and $2.00 coins. My wallet is super heavy because of all of the coins. But what is really cool and takes some getting used to is that they don't have pennies. Since they don't have pennies, if something comes out to $3.72, they round it.  So I would actually pay $3.70. Pretty cool, huh?

Australia Fun Fact #1

Australia has the craziest weather. It can be bright and sunny when you walk out in the morning, then get unbelievably windy faster than you can blink. You take cover in a building and when you come back out it is down-pouring. An hour later it is back to being sunny and warm. When I got here, people kept telling me to always carry a coat and an umbrella with you no matter what the weather report says. I believe them now! All of the pictures in the collage were taken on the same day.
